BT Landline Switch-Off: Don't Get Disconnected

BT Landline Switch-Off: Don't Get…

Big changes are coming to business (and home) phone lines. Starting December 2025, BT will begin switching off all traditional landlines, impacting businesses across the UK, including here in the Southeast. Is your business prepared for this major change?

What does this mean for your business?

It means any service from BT (or reseller)  linked to a telephone number will be switched off. This includes:

  • Traditional landline phone services
  • Broadband that relies on a phone line (you'll usually see a separate line item for the phone line on your bill)

What do you need to do?

  1. Switch to VoIP: If you're still using landlines, you'll need to move to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), which means making calls over the internet. You dont need to change telephone number, we can arrange to migrate you existing number(s) to VoIP.
  2. Upgrade Your Broadband: If your broadband uses a phone line, you'll need to switch to a fibre or SOGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access) connection. SOGEA is a new type of broadband that doesn't need a separate phone line.
  3. Check Other Devices: Some alarms and lifts use landlines. While your maintenance providers should contact you, it's worth checking proactively. Most will likely switch to using your internet connection or a 4G mobile connection.
  4. Shop around: While you can ask your supplier to do the work, it might not be the cheapest, or best solution for you.

Don't wait until the last minute! Acting now will give you time to find the best solution for your needs and budget and can even save you money, as prices will almost certainly go up the closer we get to 2025.
