I contacted Andy in July as a catch-up from a brief chat we had in January, when things were going great and I felt I didn’t need any help. When Andy spoke to me in July, I had lost a very large client, through no fault of my own, leaving me in a dreadful situation. My thoughts were that I had no option other than to close the company and stop trading.
In fact, when Andy contacted me, I was in a state and didn’t think anyone would be able to assist. He asked for the chance to simply come to my office for a chat and a coffee. I needed a chat, so I didn’t turn this down. In Andy’s words, “Let’s put our heads together.”
When Andy came to the office, I was very dismissive, virtually saying there was nothing we could do. What Andy did over the next few hours was simply incredible. He sat down and went through what my main outgoings were and what we had lost from the contract. He then sat at my whiteboard and, in easy to understand language, explained what we needed to do. Not only now, during this very difficult period, but moving forwards, to avoid situations like this in the future.
Please don’t think he sat there and fixed everything in an hour, as that simply isn’t possible. He did, however, set targets that are achievable and mean the business will not only survive this situation, but will be in a much better position in the coming months and years.
As an experienced Finance Director, the value he is going to add to my business is already clear to see.
Andy isn’t just a Finance Director, though. He genuinely has an interest in the company, and I feel that as we grow, his input and advice will only help more and more with our growth and development.
Moving forwards, I will be using Andy as a Finance Director within my business. I know for certain that I can run a company, but knowing where we are with the finances 24/7, cash flow, invoicing, asset finance and loans when needed is where I, and many other directors, need that guidance.
I also realise that Andy will be there to help and advise when further assistance, or even a dedicated member of staff, is needed. Andy will also oversee this.
Being able to let go of any part of my business to anyone is almost impossible, but having Andy behind me, I know this adds nothing but value to my company.
